Lisa L. Goulden, Q.C. was born in Moncton, N.B. and raised in Summerside, PEI. She was a member of the 53 SQN Royal Canadian Air Cadets from 1981 to 1985 at which time she had achieved the rank of Flight Sergeant.
Lisa was an active participant with the 53 SQN marching band. She played the glockenspiel, practicing at home on many occasions, much to her parent’s consternation. She was also a proud member of the 53 SQN championship drill team. She attended basic training and marching band summer camps in Greenwood N.S. and the Senior Leaders Course in Cold Lake, Alberta where she was named the top Prince Edward Island Cadet.
In 1985, Lisa graduated from Three Oaks Senior High School in Summerside and then attended at the University of Prince Edward Island where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (English) degree in 1989. She then attended Dalhousie Law School in Halifax, N.S. where she earned her Bachelor of Laws degree in 1992.
While in Law School, Lisa served as her first year’s representative on the Dalhousie Student’s Society and unsurprisingly, the Law School Social Committee. She was also a member of the Dalhousie University Student Union and served on the Dalhousie Gazette Review Committee, the Grants Committee and the Health Plan Review Committee for the Student Union.
Following Law School, Lisa left the Maritimes to article with the law firm of Cohen Highley Vogel Dawson in London, Ontario and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1994.
Lisa returned to Summerside, PEI where she articled with Bernard McCabe and Associates until her call to the PEI Bar in July of 1995. She continued private practice in Summerside until 2001 when she joined the PEI Crown Attorney’s Office
As a member of the PEI Law Society, Lisa has served on a number of committees including the Articling and Admission Committee, the Gender Equality Committee, the Discipline Committee and the Premier’s Advisory Board for Victims of Family Violence.
Lisa was also involved in the initial development of the PEI Special Olympics Curling program and coached her team to a bronze medal in the sport’s introduction year at the 2000 Canada Winter Games in Ottawa.
On November 29, 2016, Lisa was awarded the Queen’s Counsel designation for Prince Edward Island. Lawyers who receive the Queen’s Counsel designation are selected by a committee of their peers for their outstanding career achievements and their contributions to the community. Presented annually, the designation dates back to 16th century England, when one or two senior barristers of the High Court were entrusted with providing the Crown with legal counsel.
Lisa is married to Christopher J. MacLean (July 7, 2017). She and Chris presently reside in Charlottetown, PEI where she continues to practice law as a Crown Attorney.
