Welcome to 60 Confederation Air Cadet Squadron

Congratulations on your decision to join the Air Cadets program. You have decided to join an amazing group of young people and make new friends. The cadet program offers many different activities. It is up to you to do as much or as little as you want.

Meeting & Training Information:

We parade on Tuesday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Queen Charlotte Armoury (1 Haviland Street) in Charlottetown. Do not get dropped off prior to 6 pm as no officers will be present to supervise. Please ensure you have checked the calendar on our website to have the correct uniform dress or sports attire for the evening. The calendar is where we will be posting all the details for events and parades. http://aircadetleaguepei.ca/60squadron/calendar/

We also train on Saturday mornings at St. Jean School (335 Queen Street – Use Stewart Street entrance). Most Saturdays we are there from 9 am to 12 noon. However, check the calendar for more details regarding the activities for that day. Our supplementary training options include Band, Drill Team, Remote Control (RC) flying, Biathlon, Marksmanship. In addition, we also offer Ground School which is held at Charlottetown Airport, GA Gateway, 250 Brackley Point Road, Charlottetown, PE Wednesday evenings.

During the year, we take part of other optional activities that include but are not limited to: Battle of Britain Parade, Flags of Remembrance Parade, Y’smen Food Drive, Remembrance Day parade, Commonwealth Ceremony, and community events such as, Tribute, New Year’s Levee, and Roadside Cleanup. We also have a Survival exercise weekend late May or early June every year.

Attendance:

It is the responsibility of each cadet to sign the attendance sheet when they come to cadets. If he/she forgets and does not sign in, we will not be marking them present in our computer system. This could have an impact on summer course selection, promotions, and other activities where we look at attendance to evaluate and select cadets. In addition, new this year, we will be taking attendance at St. Jean school on Saturday mornings.

If you are unable to attend cadets, you are responsible for contacting us by email at aircadetinfo@gmail.com.  We will not be monitoring Facebook for messages. If you miss cadets for educational reasons, you will be responsible to make up the missed classes prior to promotion. If you do not contact us prior to the start of training, you will be marked absent.

Cadet Conduct:

All cadets will sign a code of conduct letter of agreement. We expect cadets to treat each other, as well as the staff, with respect. Honesty and loyalty are part of the cadet program. Furthermore, all Cadets will sign a cell phone use policy. We expect our cadets to follow this policy and respect the time, effort, and dedication of our instructors.

Announcements:

All our training information can be found on the calendar on our website. The website is http://60confederationaircadets.ca Please check the calendar and website often as we will be updating both as we receive information. We have a Facebook group you can join and ask questions. It is called 60 Confederation Air Cadets. We use this group to advise you of upcoming training events and activities.

If there is a school closure due to a snowstorm, we will also be canceling cadets. This information will be updated on the calendar on the website and a group email will be sent prior to 4pm.

We have implemented google documents to allow cadets to sign up for events. These signup sheets can only be accessed by the email we have on file for you. Please ensure we have your correct email. It is your responsibility to notify us in writing of any changes to your email, phone, or home address.

Uniforms:

Cadets will be provided with a uniform free of charge. We ask that you take good care of it and return it when you are no longer in cadets. If the uniform is not returned, the cost of the uniform could be invoiced to you. Our supply office is at St. Jean School. If you need to be issued a new uniform or if any part of yo6ur uniform needs to be exchanged, please see us on Saturday mornings at St. Jean School.

Please note that the first Tuesday of every month is Commanding Officer’s (CO’s) parade, therefore it will always be full uniform.  For all training and events, please check the calendar on the website as the details of the activity will include the dress of the day. The calendar will have the Dress Regulations Annex A.pdf attached. Please save this document to your computer or print it for your reference.

Squadron Sponsoring Committees: A high level of parental involvement is a valuable resource and is the key to building a strong sponsoring committee. Parents and Volunteers are most likely to stay involved if they feel good about what they are doing and appreciated. To build that relationship requires good leadership from the SSC Executive Team which is why this article is recommended reading. The main message is, “It’s not what you do, it’s the way that you do it, that’s what gets results”.  https://aircadetleague.com/en/documents/leadership_module_final.pdf

Our sponsors: The Kiwanis Club of Charlottetown and the 201 Wing.
